Me at the official launch of my book in at the
Alliance for Arts and Culture in downtown Vancouver, BC.
What do you think when you hear the date, September 11th? Disaster, right? Well, that is the day I picked for the official launch of my book at the Alliance for Arts & Culture in downtown Vancouver. This new career journey I am on, this voyage mapped by my book, is my “Not Dead Yet Tour.” “Not Dead Yet” because you can begin again at sixty; and “Not Dead Yet” because I am living post terminal diagnosis through the miracles of modern pharmacology and passionate, brilliant physicians.
About sixty people attended the party. At six o’clock, Scott Cronshaw of Opus Framing & Art Supplies, called us all together. Opus bought 1000 copies of my book, sight unseen, long before it was finished. Their faith in me gave me confidence and a deadline. Scott introduced Jane Irwin, a friend of mine I met through our volunteer work on the 200s Artropolis exhibition. Jane is also on the board of trustees of the Vancouver Art Gallery and an avid collector of contemporary art. Jane introduced me and I spoke briefly on my objectives in writing the book and of my passion for visual arts and artists.
So now the book is launched. Now, the focus is on sales and the development of further relevant material for the website and this blog. But all signs are good. After only two weeks of sales, Opus has already sold 400 copies of the book.
My thanks to Bruce, Paula, John, Bryan and Leslie for their help in making the day a success.
