Luzinterruptus

image391

The Department of Public Works drilled holes into the asphalt in Pizarro Street in central Madrid. The writers of the posts commemorating the installation done there done by Luzinterruptus do not know why the holes were drilled but I have seen this done as a preliminary step to tearing up old asphalt. Regardless, some urban installation artists saw an opportunity and on April 15th of this year, the creative team called Luzinterruptus put tiny lights in each hole to light up the night.

The next day at 10 a.m. there weren’t any lights left. We like this because we understand that everybody found taking the small light rays from the asphalt hugely tempting. We hope that wherever they are, they will serve for a useful purpose and when the new owners look at them remember that once the street looked like a lunar landscape.
