There’s an interesting article in the June 1 “New Yorker” about the use of iconic art pieces in the movie “Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian.” Although it is not a movie I would want to see, the story of how it came to be and the difficulties in not only getting the rights to show the “image,” but also to animate it is fascinating. I cannot put a link into this post because you have to be a subsciber to the New Yorker to read the article. But if some short people want you to take them to this movie, there is something interesting to look forward to. There is an animated Degas ballerina, a Jackson Pollock poured painting, a Mark Rothko rectangle, Edward Hopper’s “Nighthawks,” a Calder stabile, a weeping girl by Roy Lichenstein and a Jeff Koons puppy. Why Canadian director Shawn Levy included the images is a great part of the story.
