What comes to mind when you hear the expression: “wood carving.” When I hear the phrase, my prejudice is that I will not like what I see. That said, were you to invite me to a crafts exhibition of woodwork, I would eagerly go. I guess I see it as a utilitarian medium, but it is certainly not that in the hands of Gehard Demetz as is revealed in the photos above.
